sheika reid

Sheika Reid is a personable, hands-on leader who understands how to organize different factions of people to deliver tangible results. She’s a life-long resident of Ward 1, and the director for affordable housing opportunities at Avanti Real Estate. Sheika studied Civil Engineering at Howard University and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the National Society of Black Engineers.

Community Organizer

Sheika has organized countless community forums, roundtable discussions and brown bag lunches, bringing together agency directors and Ward One neighbors—at the same table—to engage in tangible, results-oriented conversations on key issues such as: Community Policing, Education Reform, as well as CBE and SBE Development. Recognizing Sheika’s leadership, the late Sylvia Robinson and the Emergence Community Arts Collective presented her with the “In Her Honor” Award for Community Organizing and Leadership.

Businesswoman

As a Strategist at EVI Equity, Sheika was responsible for managing several community land trusts and created a marketplace for small businesses to share, exchange and import international and domestic goods. She has also contributed to many housing preservation initiatives and some of the most innovative development projects across the city as a consultant and Architectural Drafter with ShereDesign. As Director of Affordable Housing Opportunities at Avanti Real Estate Services, Sheika assisted in bringing together neighbors, small and minority business leaders, community activists and government officials around the development of a 100% affordable housing project in the District of Columbia.
